29 Nov Be the change you wish to see in the World
Here I am in Delhi India, the land of diversity, beauty and great thinkers!
I have been invited to speak to hundreds of Principals at the 7th International Conference on Excellence in School Education at the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Delhi a most prestigious and famous university. What an amazing honor and an exciting experience to yet again look at the qualities of an effective school leader and role of educational leadership in school improvement and management!
So many of us are guided by the famous Gandhi quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” to inspire change and future directions so being surrounded by hundreds of Principals determined to bring change to schools in India is truly inspirational!
Yes, being a Principal or Head of School is a demanding and complex role today more than ever. However the reward of leading a school and a dedicated and passionate team of teachers focused on the development and growth of successful learners, confident, creative individuals and active informed citizens motivates us every day.
As we all know, there are many facets to becoming a successful school leader and knowing the difference between leadership and management in schools. However the role that I believe is most important in addressing the needs of 21st Century Learners is to be a Catalyst for Change at your school.
We can learn a great deal from Gandhi. Be the change your school needs to ensure your students are successful learners, confident, creative individuals and active informed citizens who will make a positive difference to the world.
